An abandoned car which has frustrated motorists for more than a month on Christchurch’s Southern Motorway is finally set to be removed.

Several concerned motorists contacted chrislynchmedia.com saying they had raised the issue with NZ Transport Agency, Christchurch City Council, and police in December, but no action had been taken.

One motorist said the vehicle posed a safety risk and described the lack of response from authorities as concerning.

Chris Lynch Media contacted police, who said the matter could not be dealt with by them as it fell under the responsibility of NZ Transport Agency.

The vehicle has several yellow police stickers attached.

A yellow sticker is placed on a vehicle which appears to be abandoned or is parked where it should be moved quickly, such as a motorway shoulder.

The sticker alerts other officers the vehicle has been sighted and assessed. Police usually allow between 24 and 48 hours for the owner to remove the vehicle before towing action is taken.

In a statement released to chrislynchmedia.com on Thursday afternoon, an NZ Transport Agency spokesperson said the vehicle was being removed today.
