A Woolson woman is appealing for support after her beloved kitten was found covered in blood with injuries vets say are consistent with someone intentionally hurting him.
Jumba, a small grey kitten, went missing on June 7 and returned home two days later in a state that left his owner, Mady, horrified.
She told chrislynchmedia.com “when he finally came home, I found him covered in blood. At first, I thought he may have been hit by a car, but after getting him assessed, we were told something much more heartbreaking.”

Vets at the Animal and Bird Hospital on Ferry Road determined Jumba’s injuries were consistent with a tail pull injury, meaning his tail had been ripped away from his spine as if he had been violently swung or pulled.
The damage caused a tear in his bladder, allowing urine to leak into his abdomen.
He required emergency surgery and had his tail amputated due to the nerve damage where the tail connects to the spine.
Mady said “he had somehow managed to crawl home and get back over our back fence despite his injuries. We’re still unsure whether someone put him over the fence or if adrenaline gave him the strength to get himself home.”
Jumba is not a cat Mady had planned for. She originally found him dumped in a bush and brought him home.

“From the moment I brought him home, he quickly became part of our family and gained so much confidence. He is loving, playful, and has brought so much happiness into our home.”
He is now receiving treatment at the Animal and Bird Hospital, alongside medication to support nerve recovery.
Mady said he has managed to urinate on his own twice but is still struggling, and it is not yet known whether he will need to be manually expressed for the rest of his life.

“He’s an incredibly brave little boy and has exceeded everyone’s expectations so far. He’s still happy, trying to play and talk a lot. We are very proud of him.”
Mady has set up a Givealittle page to help cover the cost of emergency treatment, surgery, medication, acupuncture and ongoing recovery care.
“I am doing absolutely everything I can to fund his treatment myself, but I am struggling to cover the costs on my own. I never imagined I would be in a position where I needed to ask for help, and I truly do not like asking for handouts, but right now I am out of options.”

She said even sharing the page could make a difference for those unable to donate.
