Following a vehicle crash this morning near Cheviot in North Canterbury, State Highway 1 is due to close from 9.30am to 11.30am to allow for vehicle recovery.

The highway will be closed between Reeves Street and Nonoti Road.

The crash happened just after 4am, a truck went into a bank off the highway in Cheviot, a Police spokesperson said.

No detour is available, and people are asked to avoid the area during this time, or to delay their travel through this area if possible.

St John was notified of a motor vehicle incident on Hall Street, Cheviot, at 04:03 today. One first response unit attended.

One patient, in minor condition, was assessed and treated at the scene.
