Lincraft will close all of its physical stores across Australia and New Zealand after more than 80 years in business.
The retailer confirmed the decision in an email to Lincraft Club members, saying its store network would close progressively over the coming months.
“Today, we are sharing news that is both difficult and deeply emotional for everyone at Lincraft,” the company said.
“After more than 80 years of serving creative communities across Australia and New Zealand, we have made the decision to progressively close our physical store network over the coming months.”
The company said its stores would not close immediately, with the closure process to happen in stages.
Chris Lynch Media understands staff were told of the news on Monday.
Lincraft said it would continue operating online while the transition took place.
“We remain committed to serving our customers throughout this period and helping you continue the projects and passions you love,” the company said.
“Importantly, Lincraft will continue to operate online, allowing customers to shop with us as the transition unfolds.”
Lincraft described the decision as deeply emotional, saying the brand had been part of families, homes and creative communities for generations.
“For generations, Lincraft has been more than just a store. It has been a place where ideas came to life, where families learned to sew and knit together, where projects were started, gifts were lovingly handmade, and lifelong creative passions were nurtured,” the company said.
The retailer thanked customers for their loyalty and said it understood the news would be disappointing for those who had supported the business.
“We understand that Lincraft holds a special place in the hearts of many customers, and we know this news will be disappointing for those who have shared our love of creativity, crafting, sewing, knitting, and home projects,” the company said.
Lincraft said customers would be kept informed as more information became available about individual stores.
