Emergency services are at the scene of  a serious crash on Tekapo-Twizel Road near Pukaki in the MacKenzie District.

The incident, which occurred around 10:15am, involved a campervan and a car. The road is currently closed.

A police spokesperson said the road will remain closed while emergency services work at the scene, and motorists are asked to avoid the area until it can be safely reopened.

A St John spokeswoman said St John was notified of a motor vehicle incident on Tekapo-Twizel Road, Pukaki at 10.19am.

Two ambulances responded and four patients, all in a moderate condition, are being transported to Timaru Hospital.
