Emergency services are at the scene of a microlight helicopter crash in North Canterbury.

Police received a report of the aircraft in distress near Eyrewell about 5.20pm.

The light helicopter crashed in a paddock on private property near Eyredale Road, near West Eyreton.

Senior Sergeant Craig Ellison said emergency services were at the scene.

“Further details will be released when they become available,” Ellison said.

A Civil Aviation Authority spokesman said the CAA has been notified of the accident and is currently liaising with Police and TAIC.

Enquiries relating to the immediate response should be directed to police.
