The dog involved in an attack that left a young child seriously injured in Aranui has been euthanised.
A Christchurch City Council spokesperson said, “The dog was euthanised today after being surrendered for destruction by the owner.”
A police spokesperson said the incident had been fully handed over to local council animal control and was not subject to a police investigation.
As first reported at chrislynchmedia.com, the attack happened on Breezes Road on Tuesday. St John was notified at 11.56am and sent a rapid response unit and an ambulance.
The child was treated at the scene before being taken to Christchurch Hospital in a serious condition. Chris Lynch Media previously reported the child had serious facial injuries.
Following the attack, the council confirmed animal management officers had seized a six-year-old Staffordshire bull terrier cross.
The council said at the time it would undertake an investigation and could not comment further.
