A young child is in a serious condition after being mauled by a dog in Aranui.

Senior Sergeant Hamish Keer Keer told chrislynchmedia.com police were first made aware of the incident at about midday and remained at the Breezes Road scene.

“Animal management has been notified.”

A St John spokesman told chrislynchmedia.com they were notified at 11.56am of an animal incident on Breezes Road.

A rapid response unit and ambulance were sent to the scene.

“Ambulance staff treated one patient and transported them to Christchurch Public Hospital in a serious condition.”

Chris Lynch Media understands the young child has serious facial injuries.

Christchurch City Council has been approached for comment.
