A 52-year-old man has been charged with murder after a woman was found dead at a property in Edgeware, Christchurch, on Wednesday.

Detective Senior Sergeant Colin Baillie said police were called to the Purchas Street property just before 6am on 30 September.

The man was taken into custody at the scene, and a murder charge was laid overnight.

He has been remanded in custody and is due to reappear in the Christchurch District Court on 16 October.

Baillie said police were not seeking anyone else in relation to the incident.

A scene guard remains at the property while police complete a scene examination.

Residents can expect a continued police presence in the area as enquiries continue.
