A Christchurch teenager has landed a shark off New Brighton Pier in a dramatic early morning catch.
His proud mum Annah Sophia said 14 year old Luca Curnow had set up a special hook and trace with the goal of catching a big fish.
“He loves fishing and is always learning and trying new methods, and well, it worked!
“He hooked this big boy and had about a 45 minute wrestle with it all the way down the pier.

This was the bait and hook that was used (supplied)
“The trust levels of Charlie Garner holding the jaws of this beast open while Luca’s step dad Dan Roos and Luca were hands and arms deep in its mouth to get the hook out to release him back into the ocean.

“Luca managed to wade with him back into the ocean and revive him to swim away safely. This all occurred at about 1.30am this morning mind you!”
