The state of emergency for Selwyn District has been officially lifted, following improvements in weather conditions across the region.

Selwyn Mayor Sam Broughton confirmed the termination of the emergency declaration at 3pm today, in consultation with the local and Canterbury Civil Defence Emergency Management (CDEM) Group Controller, as well as the National Emergency Management Agency.

“While the formal state of emergency has ended, we know there are still people in our district dealing with the aftermath of flooding—both in our towns and rural areas,” the Council said in a statement.

Officials said that ending the emergency status does not diminish the district’s commitment to assisting affected residents. The Council will continue to respond to requests for support over the weekend and into next week.

“As we shift into recovery, we and our partner agencies will work closely with those who need help—some of whom may face a long road ahead.”

The Council thanked the community for its cooperation and resilience during the severe weather, acknowledging that emergency response efforts rely on collective action.

Some roads across Selwyn remain impacted by the recent weather event, and motorists are being urged to drive with caution.
