A man has died following a water incident near Akaroa.

A police spokeswoman told chrislynchmedia.com emergency services were called to an incident near Cape Three Points just before midday, after a person was pulled from the water by an associate.

Local Fire and Emergency crews were sent to the scene, along with a rescue helicopter.

A St John spokeswoman said they were notified at 11.56am of a water incident near Bossu Road in Wainui.

One first response unit, one PRIME responder and one helicopter have responded to the incident.

Chris Lynch Media understands the man died at the scene.
