A Christchurch skincare company has become a national success story built on scientific development, local manufacturing, and the shared determination of its founders.
Phi Cosmeceutical was created by skin therapist Adele Harrison and business manager Julia Heywood.
The pair spent two years developing the range in Christchurch after seeing a growing need for products that supported deeper skin function rather than masking surface issues.

The range includes serums, cleansers and moisturisers that use active ingredients such as antioxidants and peptides at what the company describes as clinical levels.
Harrison said the goal was to design products that genuinely helped repair and strengthen the skin. “We wanted to create skincare that actually supports the skin barrier and addresses the cause.”
Harrison said the Christchurch location played a crucial part in the brand’s identity. She said: “We wanted this to be a Christchurch success story from day one. Keeping everything here meant we could oversee every step and make sure the results matched our standards.”

Heywood said their motivation came from real world experience with clients. She said: “We saw how frustrated people were with products that made big promises but delivered very little. We set out to change that by focusing only on what the skin actually needs.”
She also acknowledged the support from local stockists. She said: “The enthusiasm from clinics across the country has been incredible. It showed us there was real demand for a New Zealand made brand that prioritises science over marketing.”
The company has grown its presence through a network of professional skin clinics and spa partners across both islands.
Harrison said the continued growth reflects the values the founders built the business on. She said: “It means a lot to know that something created in Christchurch can make such a positive impact for people across the country.”
