A water main erupted on Dyers Road this afternoon leading to the closure of a segment of the thoroughfare, leaving a vehicle trapped in an unfortunate situation.
As of 3:30 pm, the road remained closed, according to a spokesperson from the NZ Transport Agency.
Southbound drivers have been directed to detour via Maces Rd, St Johns St, and Linwood Ave, with northbound travelers advised to take the reverse route.
A motorist captured footage of a vehicle ensnared in a sinkhole caused by the burst water main.
Fire, emergency, and council crews were promptly on the scene, working to extricate the vehicle.
A witness said there was a lot of water on the road and traffic had come to a stand still.
