Christchurch Green Party MP Mike Davidson has missed out on returning to Parliament under the preliminary election results, just over a year after securing his seat following the resignation of Benjamin Doyle.
Davidson, ranked 20th on the Green Party’s list, fell short after the party secured 16 seats, including 14 list seats and two electorate seats.
His parliamentary career began in October 2025 when he entered Parliament following Doyle’s resignation.
The Electoral Commission formally declared Davidson elected on 6 October 2025 to fill the vacancy left by Doyle.
Davidson also contested the Ilam electorate at Saturday’s general election, but National’s Hamish Campbell retained the seat.
Despite missing out on a return to Parliament, Davidson still holds an elected public office in Christchurch.
He remains a member of the Waipapa Papanui-Innes-Central Community Board, representing the Innes Ward.
Davidson secured the position during the 2025 local body elections, receiving 3,161 votes.
The former Christchurch city councillor has nine years of local government experience, including chairing the council’s Urban Development and Transport Committee.
