A person has been critically injured in an incident on Hereford Street.

A police spokesman told chrislynchmedia.com emergency services were called about 9pm last night to a Hereford Street address, to assist a person who reported having been injured some time previously.

A scene guard is in place and police are working to establish the circumstances of what has occurred the police spokesman said.

A St John spokesman said they was notified of this incident on Hereford Street at 8.38pm, and responded with an ambulance and two rapid response vehicles.

One patient was taken to Christchurch Hospital in a critical condition.
