A motorcyclist is in a critical condition following a crash in Upper Riccarton tonight.
A police spokesman told Chris Lynch Media police were called to the scene of a collision between a vehicle and motorbike, near the intersection of Riccarton Road and Hansons Lane at 9.15PM.
A person near the scene heard the impact and rushed over to help.

“I turned around and there was a motorcycle on the ground, with the rider laying injured. The car had stopped. I ran over, along with a few others to attend to the motorcyclist.
He was badly injured. The occupants of the vehicle were shaken by the accident but not injured.”
The police spokesman said the motorcyclist was taken to hospital with critical injuries.
“Traffic management is in place while emergency services work at the scene and motorists should avoid the area if possible.”
The Serious Crash Unit has been advised.
