Multiple Fire and Emergency crews were called to the scene of a large blaze in Hornby.
They received the call just after 7AM to the fire off Waterloo Road.
An eyewitness said the fire is on 51 Waterloo Road.
Fire and Emergency Shift Manager Simon Lyford told Chris Lynch Media they received multiple calls from the public regarding the blaze.
Initially crews Wigram Fire Station and Ilam Fire Station were called to the commercial property.
When they arrived the building was well involved.
More fire appliances were then called from Spreydon Fire Station, and Christchurch City Fire station.
The fire is approximately 30 x 50 metres Lyford said.
Another Fire and Emergency unit was also sent from Woolston Fire Station along with a Fire Command Unit.
There was no threat to neighbouring buildings.
Residents were being told to keep their windows closed.
Loud explosions could be heard coming from the scene.
Police closed off part of Waterloo Road.
