A fire at a commercial building in Christchurch has caused substantial damage.

Emergency services called to the building on Produce Place in Islington just before 2am.

Fire appliances from from Spreydon, Wigram, Ilam, Rolleston, Lincoln Christchurch City and Redwood attended the blaze.

An aerial unit was also required to tackle the blaze.

A fire investigator is at the scene this morning trying to determine the cause of the blaze.
