New Zealand’s fuel supplies remain at healthy levels with no sign of disruption, the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment says.

The latest figures, current as of 11:59pm on Wednesday 8 April, show the country has 59.7 days of petrol, 49.1 days of diesel and 50.7 days of jet fuel available across all sources.

That fuel is either already on New Zealand soil, aboard ships within our Exclusive Economic Zone, or on vessels at sea up to three weeks out.

An MBIE spokesperson said the situation was stable and there was nothing to suggest that would change.

“There is currently no indication of fuel supply disruption, and fuel continues to flow normally into New Zealand,” the spokesperson said.

“Current fuel levels are broadly in line with normal levels before recent global disruptions, and fuel companies continue to report regularly to officials. There are currently no concerns about future fuel shipments.”

Of the petrol supply, 25.6 days worth is already in the country, with a further 13.6 days on ships within New Zealand waters and 20.5 days on vessels still at sea. Diesel and jet fuel follow a similar pattern, with significant volumes either in country or on their way.

Fourteen ships are currently carrying fuel to New Zealand, five of them within the Exclusive Economic Zone and nine still on open water.

MBIE collects fuel stock and shipment data from fuel importers twice a week and publishes the figures on its website every Monday and Wednesday afternoon.
