Police have recovered a body from Lake Tekapo following a report of a person entering the water about 8pm last night.

The Police Dive Squad located a body matching the description of the missing man about 2pm today.

A police spokesperson said officers were supporting the man’s family.

Search and rescue staff, Coastguard Mackenzie Lakes volunteers, Fire and Emergency New Zealand, and a helicopter crew assisted in the search last night and today.

The death will be referred to the Coroner.
