Burwood Councillor Kelly Barber has confirmed he will seek another term on the Christchurch City Council.

Barber, who represents the ward as an independent, said it had been a privilege to serve the community over the past three years.

“Together we’ve made a lot of progress,” he said.

Barber pointed to funding wins in the Long-Term Plan, including $3 million for a future Marshland Community facility, and budget allocation for resolving surface flooding at Newport Street and Tenby Place in Wainoni.

He said he remained committed to providing video updates on roadworks, park upgrades, water pipe renewals, and council consultations, and would continue to be accessible by phone and at resident clinics in local cafés and libraries.

“I’ll be out there again door knocking, meeting those I’ve missed over the last three years and listening to what you have to say.”

Barber said it had been a pleasure to support local groups including the Aranui Community Trust, Burwood East and Dallington Residents Associations, the Wainoni Avonside Community Trust, and Community Watch.

“These groups are full of local heroes and I do everything I can to support them.”

Looking ahead, Barber said he was optimistic about Christchurch’s future.

“We’re going to see a lot more positive progress. A fantastic new stadium, our new central city pool complex, and a growing aerospace industry are just part of our exciting future.”

He said if re-elected, he would continue to advocate for responsible council spending and practical solutions that reflect the priorities of residents.

“Thank you for backing me as your councillor. With your support, I’ll be back here working for you for another three years.”
