Queenstown’s Future Hospitality Group has secured three finalist spots in the 2025 Hospitality New Zealand Awards for Excellence.
The group has been named a finalist for Best Bar with its iconic lakeside venue Little Blackwood, a recognition it has received for the fourth consecutive year. The popular cocktail bar won the coveted title in 2022 and remains a staple on Queenstown’s Steamer Wharf, known for its seasonal drinks, stunning lake views, and refined charcuterie offerings.
This year, Executive Chef Matt Tobin is also a finalist in the Chef of the Year category, his second year in a row. Tobin has been widely recognised for his innovation, leadership, and creative approach to modern cuisine, which co-owners James Ace and Bert Haines say has elevated the group’s culinary offering to new heights.

The group’s café odd saint is also in the running for Best Café, praised for its eclectic and crowd-pleasing menu of global soul food. Tucked away in a sunny, tree-lined corner next to a small church, the café has become a favourite among both locals and visitors for its memorable dishes, vibrant cocktails, and consistently high-quality coffee.
Co-owners Ace and Haines said the recognition reflects the passion and commitment of their 90-strong team across six venues.
“These nominations are a credit to the hard work, consistency, and passion of our entire team,” they said.
The winners of the Hospitality New Zealand Awards for Excellence 2025 will be announced in Wellington across two evenings on June 10 and 11.
