Six youths have been arrested after a man was punched in the face in Cashel Mall on Sunday afternoon.
The assault happened outside H&M on Cashel Street.
An eyewitness said she was walking out of the Country Road store when she heard a lot of yelling.
“We looked over and saw a security guard yelling “keep back and go away.”
The shopper said “there were six kids dressed in black with scarves tied over their heads like ninjas.
One of them right-hooked an old guy in the face, then they all ran off……it was frightening.”
A police spokeswoman confirmed to Chris Lynch Media “six youths were taken into custody and were assisting police with inquiries, following an assault on a man on Cashel Street at about 2.30 pm today.
The man has minor injuries after the assault.”
The police spokeswoman said police were urging anyone who saw the incident and might have video or still images to contact police by calling 105, quoting event number P052510124.
Information can also be shared anonymously through Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111 or at www.crimestoppers-nz.org.
A St John Ambulance spokesperson told Chris Lynch Media they weren’t called to the scene.
It follows another attack in Cashel Mall, where a 61-year-old man died after being assaulted just after 6pm on October 18, near Colombo Street.
An 18-year-old was charged with allegedly wounding the man with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
