Police are searching for the occupants of a stolen vehicle that crashed at the intersection of Brougham and Colombo streets shortly before 2am.

A police spokesman told ChrisLynchMedia.com the vehicle had earlier failed to stop for police, but officers did not pursue it due to the manner in which it was being driven.

No injuries were reported, and the occupants fled the scene on foot.

A local at the scene said the car smashed into a street light, bringing the pole down.

Brougham Street was blocked for a short time while emergency services cleared the scene.

Police inquiries are continuing.
