Two youths have been arrested after allegedly trying to ram raid Westfield Riccarton in the early hours of this morning.

Police were called to Rotherham Street at around 12.30am after a vehicle was allegedly used to gain entry to the mall and damage a window.

Christchurch Police Inspector Paul Reeves said the vehicle fled the scene before being reported by a member of the public and located by officers.

Police deployed road spikes, but the vehicle continued for a short distance before being abandoned near the intersection of Waltham Road and Austin Street with all four tyres deflated.

Two youths were taken into custody.

They are facing charges including aggravated burglary, unlawfully taking a motor vehicle, burglary, failing to stop and dangerous driving.

Both are due to appear in the Christchurch Youth Court today.
