Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre has been named Oceania’s Leading Meetings and Conference Centre for the second consecutive year at the 2026 World Travel Awards.

The Christchurch venue won the category at the World Travel Awards Asia, Oceania and Indian Ocean Gala Ceremony in the Maldives on 27 September.

The awards are decided through voting by travel professionals, media and consumers around the world.

Te Pae Christchurch General Manager Ross Steele said the recognition reflected the work of staff and the wider visitor economy.

“Winning this award for the second consecutive year reflects not only the dedication of our team, but also the strength of the wider visitor economy, tourism and business events sectors working together to deliver world class experiences for international delegates.”

Te Pae Christchurch was nominated alongside ICC Sydney, Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre and Cairns Convention Centre.

Since opening in May 2022, the central Christchurch venue has hosted more than 980 events attended by more than 447,000 local, national and international visitors.

Steele said Te Pae played an important role in bringing international visitors into contact with local businesses, researchers, industry leaders and communities.

“Beyond its significant economic contributions, Te Pae Christchurch plays an important role in connecting international visitors with the people, culture and stories of New Zealand.”

The latest award follows other international recognition for the venue, including being named among the Top 50 Convention Centres Worldwide in TTW 2026.

Te Pae said it had reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 20 percent since opening in 2022.

The venue also holds Net Carbon Zero certification through Toitū Envirocare, Enviromark Gold status and Qualmark Gold certification.

Steele thanked staff, event organisers, industry partners and clients for supporting the venue.
