Two youths have been arrested after fleeing police in a stolen vehicle across Christchurch on Sunday afternoon.

Senior Sergeant Craig Ellison said police identified the vehicle shortly after 2pm in Prebbleton as it travelled towards Halswell.

Police monitored the vehicle as it continued through the city before successfully deploying road spikes on Sawyers Arms Road.

Despite being spiked, the vehicle continued at a slow speed before the driver eventually stopped on Stanley Road.

Ellison said two youths were taken into custody without further incident.
