These amounts are in addition to the rain that has already fallen today. Peak rates of 10 to 15 mm/h. Note, the rain should ease in the north this afternoon.”

Metservice said heavy rain may cause streams and rivers to rise rapidly.

The forecast for Christchurch city said “rain, heavy at times, easing to a few showers this afternoon. Easterlies, strong in exposed places, gradually dying out this afternoon.”
