PAK’nSAVE Rolleston is set to open its doors, becoming the largest supermarket in the South Island at 8,100m².
With one week to go, preparations are well underway for a Tuesday, 14 October 2025 opening.
Deliveries are arriving, shelves are being stocked, and staff are completing training across all departments.
The bakery, butchery, and deli teams are getting ready to serve customers from day one.
Foodstuffs South Island Chief Executive Mary Devine said the store has been a long time in the making and is designed to support the Selwyn region’s continued growth.
She said the store will offer low prices while also strengthening the area’s retail resilience.
Around 280 staff members have been hired to run the new supermarket, covering a wide range of roles including checkout operators, shelf stackers, butchers, bakers, and logistics workers. Staff will be on site from early morning until late at night.
Store owners Phill and Sarah Blackburn said the team is excited and prepared for opening day. They expect the store to offer a wide selection and good value, supported by a focus on customer service.
The Blackburns say they’ve already made strong community connections and are looking forward to further building relationships as the store becomes part of the local landscape.
PAK’nSAVE Rolleston’s opening comes at a time of rapid growth in the Selwyn district, and the store is expected to play a key role in meeting the area’s retail and employment needs.
