Nearly 2,700 properties are without power on Monday night after a large unplanned outage affected parts of Broadfield, Halswell, Hornby, Ladbrooks, Lansdowne, Lincoln, Marleys Hill, Prebbleton, Tai Tapu, and Templeton.
Power went out at 9.44pm, with Orion New Zealand confirming crews were on their way to investigate.
The estimated restoration time was 11.45pm.
Orion said its field team were investigating the cause and thanked residents for their patience while they worked to restore power as quickly as possible.
