A person has died at a Subway in Kaiapoi.

The death happened at the Williams Street branch, after receiving reports of a medical event.

A police spokeswoman told chrislynchmedia.com “sadly this appears to have been a death following a medical event.

A witness said two fire trucks were at the scene and a police officer, and the shop was initially cordoned off.

There is nothing suspicious or unexplained” the spokeswoman said.

The customer appeared to have suffered a medical event and died at the scene, they said.

The death is not being regarded as suspicious.

The shop was closed for some time but has since reopened.
