The Government will review COVI9-19 Alert Levels for the South Island on Monday, and not before that.

There are 28 new community cases of Covid-19 today – 27 in Auckland and one in Wellington, Director of Public Health Caroline McElnay has confirmed.

This takes the total number of cases in this outbreak to 764. Unlinked cases have dropped from 65 to 31, McElnay said.

No cases have been reported in the South Island.

Grant Robertson told the media at the 1pm conference “I’m not going to preempt the decision that we’ve got to make on Monday that will be made on the latest public health advice.”

“Obviously we will continue to look for the things we always look for when we’re debating decisions, that is the absence of cases, the absence of positive wastewater testing.”

“So these are the things we will always look for and then Cabinet will make a decision.”

National leader Judith Collins wants the Government to reduce the South Island to alert level 2.

“South Island people and businesses are being put under unnecessary stress for no good reason.”

Collins said “If Wellington, which has had a number of positive cases during the current outbreak, can be at level 3, it seems a major overreaction to have the same alert level in the south, where there have been none.”
