A motorcyclist has been seriously injured in a crash in Edgeware this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the corner of Edgeware Road and Hills Road just before 4PM.

A nearby retailer said a vehicle and motorbike collided throwing the rider off his bike.

Traffic heading north on Hills Road is being diverted down Edgeware Road.

A St John Ambulance spokesman said they were notified of this incident at 3.51pm.

One ambulance and one rapid response vehicle was sent.

The ambulance took one patient with serious injuries to Christchurch Hospital.
