A motorcyclist has been seriously injured in a crash at the intersection of Brougham Street and Opawa Road in Christchurch.
A witness told Chris Lynch Media the crash appeared to involve a car and motorcycle and happened about 8.40pm.
He said the motorcycle was lying in the intersection and the rider appeared to be receiving assistance nearby.
A number of witnesses had stopped to help before emergency crews arrived.
The witness said about four police units, one ambulance, a rapid response vehicle, two fire trucks and a community patrol were at the scene.
NZTA issued a road hazard notice for State Highway 76 at Waltham, at the intersection with Opawa Road, at 9.05pm.
It said a crash was partially blocking the westbound lanes and motorists were advised to use caution through the area.
