A swimmer reported missing in the Waimakariri River has been found.

Police and Coastguard Canterbury crews received a report at 1.40PM that someone was in difficulty in the river.

A police spokesman said the person made their own way out of the river.

Police attended and transported the person home, and offered them advice on safe behaviour in and around the water.
