Patrick Eager, the 26-year-old reported missing near Hanmer Springs at the weekend, has been found safe and well.
A police spokesperson told Chris Lynch Media the search for him had concluded successfully.
“We would like to thank the members of the public who assisted in our search, and the businesses that supported the operation with offers to cater,” the spokesperson said.
“Police would also like to thank the Land Search and Rescue volunteer teams from across Christchurch who assisted us.”
Patrick was last seen about 9.55am on Saturday on the Conical Hill Track, walking towards the summit with family members when he became separated.
Police had been particularly concerned for his welfare, because he is autistic, non verbal, unfamiliar with the area, and unlikely to seek assistance.
The search resumed on Sunday morning, with 30 Land Search and Rescue volunteers assisting Police Search and Rescue personnel.
