UPDATED / Correction: 16 August 4.12PM – police have not been to Carolyn’s house
A Christchurch woman has been left “traumatised” after a stolen car crashed into her property.
Carolyn, who didn’t want her last name published, said on the 26th of July, she was sitting in her bedroom when the car entered her property at high speed.
To make matters worse, the occupants threatened to kill her, and she said police never visited her property to investigate the incident.
“The car became stuck on my lawn. Their behaviour and appearance made it obvious the car was stolen so I rang 111 straight away, she told Chris Lynch Media.
“I was on the phone with police for quite some time pleading for them to arrive as they [the offenders] were going around my property and smashing my chair to help them get the car out.”
Carolyn said the occupants were acting aggressively, with one telling her they were coming back to get her.
“You could see the evil in his eyes, it looked like he was on drugs.
“They were threatening me, saying they’ll come back and kill me.
“Despite reassurances, from police communications, no one showed up to her property.
Four days later Carolyn phone back police using the non-emergency number and was told there was no job number for the incident.
“The lady on the phone apologised profusely, sent me a job number and said the police unit that was supposed to visit my home had in fact taken off to chase the offenders, but couldn’t explain why they never returned.
“She said she emailed the officers involved and requested they make contact with me.
But as of Wednesday, the 16th of August, police had not contacted Carolyn.
Carolyn said she has been left traumatised by the event and was afraid to go outside or leave her home, for fear of the criminals returning.
“My lawn was badly damaged too which I took photos of and can still see the result despite getting a gardener in to repair it.”
Carolyn said her neighbourhood was usually quiet and peaceful.
“They left behind an electric drill, which I was going to show the police, but no one has bothered to show up.
“They haven’t taken this seriously at all, despite repeatedly contacting them asking if the offenders had been caught.
“It was just such a shock to have this happen when you least expect it.
“My life has been threatened, but police don’t seem to care. Is this the state of our police force now?”
Threatening to kill someone can lead to imprisonment for up to 7 years.
A police spokesperson told Chris Lynch Media they received a report of people acting threateningly, and a vehicle driving onto private property on Golf Links Road, Shirley at around 3.55pm on the 26th July.
“Around the time of the incident, police received multiple reports of antisocial driving behaviour believed to be related to the same vehicle.
“Enquiries determined the vehicle involved was stolen, believed to be displaying stolen plates”, the spokesperson said.
