Fire crews have contained a slash pile fire within the forestry area of Christchurch Adventure Park.

Smoke from the fire was visible across parts of the Port Hills on Monday morning, but Fire and Emergency Southern Shift Manager Lynn Crossan told chrislynchmedia.com there was no risk of it spreading.

“It’s contained and it’s not going anywhere,” Crossan said.

A crew and tanker were at the scene working with forestry staff to extinguish the burning pile.

Crossan said smoke could remain visible while crews completed the work. “People are always concerned about anything on the Port Hills,” she said.

Fire and Emergency expected to maintain a presence at the park throughout the day to ensure the pile was completely extinguished.

“We will be there probably all day, just while we make sure the slash pile is totally extinguished to our satisfaction,” Crossan said.
