A five year old pedestrian has been seriously injured following a crash on Ferry Road.
Emergency services were called to the scene near the intersections of Tilford Street and Richardson Terrace at about 8.40am.
A witness said members of the public rushed to help and managed to rescue boy, who was trapped under the vehicle, before emergency crews arrived.
A St John spokesman told chrislynchmedia.com they responded with an ambulance and rapid response vehicle.
The child was assessed at the scene and has been transported to Christchurch Hospital in a serious condition.
