Five people have been hospitalised following a single-vehicle crash in North Canterbury.

A police spokesperson said the crash happened on Browns Road in Eyrewell at 10.25am.

A St John spokeswoman said two helicopters were sent to the scene.

Five people were transported to Christchurch Hospital with moderate to serious injuries.

The police spokesperson said officers were making enquiries into the circumstances of the crash.
