Fire and Emergency crews were called to a blaze in Shirley on Friday night.

Several 111 calls were made around 10PM reporting a fire on Emmett Street, with flames seen coming from the back of the property.

A witness at the scene said a St John ambulance was in attendance, but a police officer confirmed no one was injured.

The fire attracted several onlookers, and the street was cordoned off.

Crews remained at the scene more than an hour after the first call.

City Care staff later arrived, and it’s understood the house is a Kāinga Ora property.

The property is being secured overnight, and a fire investigator is expected to examine the scene on Tuesday morning.
