Ferry Road has reopened following a serious crash involving a pedestrian and a vehicle early this morning.

Emergency services were called to Ferry Road between Charlesworth Street and Waterman Place in Woolston about 5.30am.

A police spokeswoman said two people were taken to Christchurch Hospital, one in a critical condition and the other with moderate injuries.

The road was closed while emergency services worked at the scene, with the Serious Crash Unit advised.

Police thanked motorists for their patience while the road was closed.
