Eight people have been injured in a crash involving multiple vehicles on the South Island’s West Coast.
A police spokesperson told chrislynchmedia.com they were notified of the crash near Donoghues Road on Harihari Highway (SH6) in Ross at 1:10pm.
A St John spokesperson said eight patients were assessed at the scene. Four were in a serious condition, two were in a moderate condition and two had minor injuries.
Those with the most serious injuries were transported by helicopter to Christchurch Hospital and Greymouth Hospital, while patients with moderate to minor injuries were taken by ambulance.
The Serious Crash Unit has been advised and the road is expected to be blocked for some time while emergency services work at the scene.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area and expect delays.
