One person is in police custody following a suspected firearm incident in Woolston.

Senior Sergeant Hamish Keer-Keer said at around 4.35pm today, “Police were alerted to suspicious behaviour and a suspected firearm in a vehicle on Ferry Road.”

“The vehicle’s occupants were detained and one person has been arrested,” Keer-Keer said.

Local residents have told chrislynchmedia.com that multiple police officers, some armed with rifles, as well as a police dog, were involved in what they described as a “dramatic” scene.

The resident said it appeared the person arrested was “wearing a mask”.

Another eyewitness said it happened in the car park of a group of shops and “seemed to involve a white SUV”.

Police said enquiries into the incident are ongoing.
