Christchurch police have captured several serious youth offenders in the central city following a chase this evening.
Chris Lynch Media understands police chartered a commercial helicopter to track a stolen vehicle carrying several youths.
An eyewitness said, “One kid gave up and was arrested, while two others ran through apartment buildings between Hereford and Cashel Streets.”
The stolen vehicle had been involved in multiple dangerous driving incidents across Christchurch late this afternoon and into the evening.
According to the witness, one of the youths arrested wasn’t wearing shoes, while another had blood on their face and a ripped shirt.
The vehicle mounted several footpaths, sideswiped cars, and drove on the wrong side of the road while trying to evade police.
The car was eventually located on the second floor of the Innovation carpark on Madras Street with multiple dents, and its ignition ripped out.
It has since been towed to a police yard.
Several motorists reported seeing the vehicle speed through multiple red lights.
