A Christchurch disability support organisation has launched a new suite of interactive tools to help people with learning disabilities navigate the online world safely and confidently.

Hōhepa Canterbury’s Digital Citizens Framework, originally developed in partnership with Netsafe and People First NZ, has been enhanced with engaging, web-friendly resources.

The update includes five online quizzes covering key topics such as cyber safety, digital literacy, and online values, as well as a mobile app and card game to make learning more accessible.

The tools are designed for ongoing use, supporting users at various stages of digital literacy.

Hōhepa Canterbury’s Sarah Kinley says the goal is to help people understand where they are in their digital journey and how to build safer online habits.

“We’ve seen real change, safer relationships, stronger choices, and people feeling more in control of their digital lives,” she says.

Netsafe Chief Customer Officer Leanne Ross says the tools are valuable not only for people with learning disabilities but for families and educators too.

“Everyone deserves to feel safe and confident online. These Easy Read resources are inclusive and practical for a wide range of users,” she says.
