Choice Hotels has awarded a $4,000 community grant to Christchurch-based charity Aspire Canterbury, recognising its vital work supporting people with disabilities across the region.

The funding was provided through Choice Hotels’ Your Community, Your Choice program, which empowers local hotel franchisees to nominate grassroots organisations making a real difference in their communities.

Aspire Canterbury was nominated by Hotel Elms Christchurch, an Ascend Collection Hotel, in acknowledgement of the charity’s long-standing commitment to disability support and advocacy in Canterbury.

Based in Christchurch, Aspire Canterbury provides free information, advice and access to resources for people with disabilities or impairments, helping them participate in their communities and live as independently as possible.

Chief Executive Chris Davis said the grant would go directly to those most in need through Aspire’s Disability Hardship Fund, which supports around 10,000 people nationwide each year.

The $4,000 will fund two full months of direct assistance, with all funds going straight to families and individuals facing disability-related financial hardship.

“The fund helps in very practical ways, from specialist equipment and mobility aids to autism assessments and essential home modifications,” Davis said.

“Support from local businesses like Hotel Elms Christchurch allows us to keep delivering services where they’re needed most.”

Choice Hotels Asia-Pac Senior Director Commercial and Revenue Management Kari Hunter said Aspire Canterbury was selected for its strong local impact and ability to improve quality of life for people with disabilities.
