Canterbury will honour the Tactix with a public celebration following their unforgettable Premiership victory, the team’s first premiership title in 28 years.
The celebration parade will take place on Monday 4 August and marks a major milestone for netball across the Mainland zone. It is the first time the Tactix have secured a Premiership title, capping off a standout season.
The parade will begin at Cathedral Square, where the team will board the Christchurch Tram at 3.30PM. The tram will arrive at the Christchurch Art Gallery at 4PM, where the formal part of the event will begin.
Christchurch Mayor Phil Mauger will officially welcome the team at 4.05PM, followed by an address and a question and answer session with players.
At 4.30PM, fans will have the opportunity to meet the players, take photos, and get autographs.
Members of the public are encouraged to wear red and black and line the tram route to show their support.
The celebration will also include a close up look at the Premiership League trophies, with Mainland’s champion players also attending.
The event will recognise both the current squad and past players of the game.
The occasion will also mark Ellie Bird’s final season with the Tactix, adding extra significance to the celebration.
Organisers say it is a chance for the community to come together and recognise a truly inspirational team and a historic moment in Canterbury netball.
