The co-owners of a  Christchurch liquor store say they’re at breaking point after offenders smashed through the rear wall of their store, during another ram raid at Centaurus Village.

The attack happened just after 11pm on Saturday night at Thirty Liquor at the Centaurus Village shopping area near Cashmere.

Surveillance footage and damage seen by ChrisLynchMedia.com shows offenders used a stolen vehicle to smash through the back entrance of the liquor store, tearing down part of a wall before stealing large amounts of alcohol and cigarettes.

The business owner said at least $30,000 worth of stock was stolen, not including the extensive structural damage caused to the building.

The latest attack comes after several businesses at Centaurus Village have been repeatedly targeted in recent months.

One of the co-owners of the liquor store said he was exhausted and frustrated by the constant offending and had even considered shutting the businesses permanently.

Another store the pair own in Hornby was also targeted just weeks ago.

The co-owner said while police were investigating the Saturday night attack, he had little confidence the justice system would hold the offenders accountable.

“They’re either too young or there just aren’t enough resources to catch them,” he said.

“Until someone is killed, the justice system clearly has no interest in treating this crime seriously. Only then might authorities bother to actually punish these offenders.”

He said one of the only successful outcomes came after Chris Lynch Media published surveillance footage from an earlier incident.

“A regular customer recognised one of the offenders and that’s how they were eventually identified,” he said.

In a statement, Senior Sergeant Stephen McDaniel said police responded to a reported burglary at a commercial premises on Centaurus Road shortly after 11pm.

“Entry was gained to the premises with the use of a vehicle, which was reported stolen. A small number of items were taken.

“The alleged offenders then left the scene in a second vehicle, also reported stolen.

“The vehicle that was used to leave the scene was later located abandoned on Oxford Terrace, however enquiries are ongoing to locate the occupants.”

Anyone with information about the incident has been urged to contact police.
